Right in the middle of Mariazell the family owned 6 generations picturesque hotel is run by the son who has worldly experience and one hell of a whiskey collection which is his passion. We had an amazing dinner at the hotel restaurant. This has been a family run business for six generations. Peter and his wife are fluent in English and made us feel right at home. They accommodated my gluten intolerance. Overall - fantastic experience.
The hotel is great. The location is more than perfect - at the city center.The SPA area is huge, very comfortable with a lot of space. Very relaxing after whole day of hiking.The breakfast is very good and the staff is really friendly. Always available for questions or help.
got one of the old rooms, dated but ok. bathroom in general was ok but water was horrendous. it first took 10 minutes for the water to hear up and after that the pressure of the hot water was not enough to keep the switch up for using the shower head, so I had the choice of showering cold or standing crooked while holding the shower head above my head manually. worst shower I have had in years! (room 106)
also, I asked for a pillow without feathers which unfortunately was never delivered to the room.
otherwise the restaurant was nice enough but extremely limited options for a vegan, so while everyone was eating soups and desserts, I had the choice between 2 main meals and could take a salad. if you are a friend of whisky though, it is a great place and the staff are super friendly and create a nice atmosphere.
